Description


Took this looking north up I-17 near Flagstaff, AZ. I was parked at a scenic overlook. Besides the highway traffic in the time exposure, there's a trail from an airplane on the right (the jagged red line).

16mm, f/2.8, 30 seconds, ISO 3200.

Thanks Ruth. I discovered there are only two things necessary to get these: a full frame sensor for width and manageable noise, and most importantly a place without light pollution. Two hours later I was in Phoenix and I looked up and saw about 12 stars, lol! This image is only a 30-second exposure which means you are capturing only a little more than you see with the naked eye. Standing there at the place I took this I saw the Milky Way as bright as can be and I was awed beyond magination. I mention this because I've been asked how I knew where to aim the camera... the answer is, you'll see it bright as ever. If you can't, then light pollution is covering it and you won't get the shot, something I learned doing these images. #9269775
