Winter's Bench

Jack & Monnie, this is the same spot we were at in September last year. Quite different? The crusty snow had a very unusual texture because of recent warmth and rain followed by intense cold. The fast shutter kept the texture somewhat intact and accented the temporary mood of the place.

That sure looks cold Marty - Excellent winterscape! Jeff #1351655Monnie Ryan February 09, 2011
Whew -- looks a bit different! We're got that same crust on top of the snow, and like how you've captured it. The light, shadows and textures really give it a stark, dramatic look. Well done (now I hope it goes away SOON)! #9222826Tammy M. Anderson February 09, 2011
Beautiful tones, light and textures, Marty. #9222868Jack Ryan February 09, 2011
You are right, Marty...it doesn't look quite the same...although I recognized the location as soon as I saw it. I like the perspective and comp...interesting and effective combination of shadows and light...very "cool." #9222963Denny E. Barnes February 09, 2011
Ice covered and crusty snow is hard to shoot and get all the detail but you did an excellent job, Marty! Wonderful capture of the light and mood! Very well done!! #9223053Julianne Bradford February 09, 2011
Icey whiteness captured so well with shadows in just the right places Marty. WTG..lighting master :-) P.S. Thanks for encouraging me to dig through my Yosemite archives. I had fun! #9223382Ron McEwan February 09, 2011
WOW! Marty we have the same thing with a four inch add on. Had to get a tractor to plow my lane to the truck so I could get it out today. #9223451Carol L. Fowler February 09, 2011
Looks almost like drifting sand, instead of snow.! #9223565Michelle Alton February 10, 2011
Marty, this is so eerie and stark. Love the black and white. A favorite for me, as this amazing image starts its journey to "fame and fortune!" #9224253Randy D. Dinkins February 10, 2011
Cool light and comp. I don't think I want to be sitting there in this weather :-). #9228271Kitty R. Rodehorst-Hanna February 11, 2011
BURRRRUTIFUL, Marty! :-) k #9233580Mitch Spence February 12, 2011
I so enjoy the textures and tones here, Marty. We can think this abstract vision can be anywhere. It also can just as well be sand, blown in across a long abandoned beach. #9235727JO ANN CLEVELAND February 13, 2011
How very interesting Marty...great capture..jo ann c.

Lots of interesting looks here my friend. First lets start with the lighting, love the way it plays with shadows, also the fact that it makes it look very cold. I enjoy the way you composed the picture with the objects in the snow going in a diagonal line. I especailly love the textures, that crystalized look of the snow. This is really some beautiful work my friend, love the look. #9243100Ellen Hodges February 15, 2011
Very fabulous capture, Marty! Love the comp and light really a lot!! Soooo beautiful and well done in my humble opinion!!! #9243479Val Feldman February 23, 2011
My first reaction was sand instead of snow, also. This has such a wonderful abstract feel to it...love the diagonal placement (you always locate the best diagonals in your comp!) of the stand of brush, to the bench, to the posts leading the eye directly to the icy looking water. Perfect for b/w! #9257486Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
