Uploaded: December 09, 2010
In the fall the fully grown acorn weevil larva chews a perfectly round 1/8 inch hole in the side of the nut and emerges.
If you refer to your kids as "grubs" ... you might be an Entomologist

I always see the holes but have never had the pleasure of seeing the grub that caused it...well, I'll be doggoned! (I say that a lot when I come to your corner of BP, Tex!:) And from the Wedding Tree in San Saba, to boot. Another "want-to-go" spot for me - hopefully, you got some shots of it! #9089693Tammy Espino December 09, 2010
Well if it wern't for the bug I would love this!! :) Hee #9089882Michelle Alton December 10, 2010
Did you know that Jane Goodall actually named her son "Grub?" I wonder if she was an entomologist. Both of these are amazingly executed. I'll bet you picked up a whole bunch of acorns and brought them home in the hopes of being able to witness this! You must be an entomologist yourself! #9090887

Great composition Jim! I love nature shots, bugs, critters and the whole package as you know. You are posting some really great finds. BTW, my daughter is a entomologist. She will dig this one. Keep them coming... #9116018Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
