Description

This handsome young Aussie was checking out the sports results and just as I was locking on to him, he locked on to me. Is that just the hint of a smile?

This caffeine induced candid caper was shot from my regular table at the Crèma Espresso Bar, the greatest coffee shop in Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia on a nice spring morning.

Canon EOS 40D & Canon 28-135 USM IS Lens: RAW, f/5.6 @ 1/800sec, 220mm, ISO 100, Hand held.
Lightroom 2.2 & Photoshop CS3.

THE MAKING OF 'Good Sport':

Another Wednesday morning means another gathering of some fellow members of the Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club, where we slurp coffee, eat cake, chat, discuss photography and solve all the world's problems.
On this particular day there were slim pickings for candids. There were people around but nothing of note was happening. In the middle of a conversation I spotted this bloke and his mate standing near a table, ready to take their seats. Our star candid subject took his time and opened the paper. By this time I was standing up to get a clear shot and just as I locked the focus on to him, he locked his eyes on to me. When I lowered the camera there was a brief moment of eye contact, that hint of a smile, a nod and all was right with the world. Boy I love candid photography!
