Fantastic image, Mike!!! I love this! What time of night did you do this one? The sky isn't pitch black like a night time usually is, and the streaks coming from behind the rocks really makes this one stand out! Just beautiful! #287286Larry Lawhead August 01, 2005
Wow!! Very striking, Mike!! The clouds and starts are outstanding!!Mike Umscheid August 01, 2005
Sharon, this was taken about 2am under full moonlight. It is a 2 minute exposure, hence the streaks from the clouds' motion blur. Since there was a bright full moon, the long exposure was able to capture a little bit of blue hue in the sky, even at 2am! I did bring this color out with some curves adjustments, though. -Mike #1663917Sharon Day August 01, 2005

This is beautiful!! I love it! I have been wanting to try something similar. How do you keep your shutter open for 2 minutes? Is that what a cable release is for? Thanks! #1693257Barbara J. Eads August 09, 2005
Mike, this is a wonderful picture, very nicely done! #1698796Ken Grooms August 22, 2005
Wow! I never knew Kansas had anything like this! Thanks for sharing this wonderful photo! #1750571Julie L. Curiel August 23, 2005
Hi Mike! Beautiful capture of Monument Rocks. I live in Salina and have been wanting to make it out there one of these days. I also love your storm images. Kansas definately seems to have enough tornadoes to go around. Where do you live? #1755892Ariel Lepor April 30, 2006
WOW! Awesome image! Were the rocks lit just by moonlight during your LTE?! And it looks like those stars moved a little in those two minutes, lol! ;) Great work! #2708835Mike Umscheid April 30, 2006
Hi Ariel, thanks for the compliment... Yep, the illumination is all natural moonlight! #2708895Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
