A tribute to a beautiful swan

Uploaded: July 24, 2010

Description

This is one of the two swans that feature throughout my gallery. I have been photographing them for the last couple of years. Sadly, a couple of days ago, one of them died. It appeared to have sustained some sort of a neck injury. It was sad to see this once graceful swan unable to lift its head or plunge its neck into the water to feed. I tried to get it some help but it came too late. Now, its partner is left to raise it's seven cygnets to adulthood on its own.

Exif: F Number: 4, Exposure Bias Value: -1.00, ExposureTime: 1/1000 seconds, Flash: did not fire, compulsory flash mode, ISO: 320, White balance: Manual white balance, FocalLength: 105.00 mm, Model: Canon EOS 40D

A lovely tribute, Ann, but you tell a sad story with it! I hope that the 7 cygnets all survive and grow to be as beautiful as this swan.

Terrible news. You know we have followed along with your sweet Swans for all these months, too. We are all attached to them. I can't even imagine how sad you and yours must be, Ann.

You know, Ann, I wanted to comment on this one initially but just couldn't...started to but could never finish my thoughts in regard to this beautiful swan's passing and the mate and babies left behind....A wonderful tribute and a heart touching capture - and now, a much-deserved Finalist. All the best on this one in the upcoming round, my friend and congratulations. ~Val #8825619

Many thanks for your acknowledgements. The cygnets are doing great. Every time I go down to the lake I am filled with sadness as I have watched this family of swans produce 27 cygnets in the last three years. #8838023

Laura E. Swan level-classic August 15, 2010

No doubt. I would be, too. Wow. 27! #8838044

I want to say "Congratulations " on this lovely finalist, Ann ~ but at the same time, I must say "I'm sorry" that the image brings you sorrow. Life can be entirely too ironic...
Glad to hear the "babies" are progressing nicely. #8841806
