Very cool, Maryke. May I ask where you received your training in underwater photography? I wouldn't have the slightest idea where to start.

As for your photo, the translucent "fronds" on this polyp (terrible name--who names these poor creatures??) make this photo what it is--and it is fabuloso. By the way, have you ever visited the aquarium in Monterery, California? I saw the most beautiful tiny jellyfish they had there last year. Scientists have only recently discovered these creatures because they live in total darkness at the farthest depths of the sea. The unique thing about them is that they actually have lights. As they pulsate, they emit an almost electric glow on their edges. It was one of the most remarkable phenomena I've ever seen. My husband and I couldn't quit looking at them. Anyhow, I just thought you might be interested since you obviously have a passion for the sea. (And, no, I did NOT get an acceptable photo of them. I plan to return and try again!)
cheers,

Thank you for your kind words. Basically, I'm self-taught, and some of my underwater shots due to the fact I do a lot of night diving, which is when the coral polyps come out to filter feed, and the fish are sleeping, so you can get really close to them.. #3270
