Description

The Polyphemus Moth (Antheraea polyphemus) is a North American member of the family Saturniidae, the giant silk moths.
Footnote: The eye spots are where it gets its name – from the Greek myth of the Cyclops Polyphemus.
F/16, 1/640th, ISO 640, Canon 1D M3, Sigma 150mm + EM-140 DG ringflash for fill. Tripod & wire. Shot this morning early, mostly cloudy & breezy. Full frame.

The moth is so beautiful. You did an excellent job. Thank you for sharing the history. Wonderful color and detail. I love the soft lighting. I want to get a ring flash. I do a lot of close ups and sometimes my lighting is to harsh. I am still learning. Nice work Howard! #8753337
