Noonmark Pine

Renata & I hiked up Noonmark Mtn in the ADK High Peaks earlier this week. At 3,500ft Noonmark isn't one of the higher peaks, but it has a lovely 360deg view of most of surrounding highest moutains.
Noonmark is so named because, from the town of Keene Valley, seen in the distance here, the sun is directly above this point at noon, thus the mountain acts as sort of a sun dial for the area.
The beautiful colorations on the pines up here are, I believe, caused by acid rain. They certainly are not a sign of a healthy tree, but ... it does make the tree look very pretty -- almost like it's decorated for Christmas.
