Description

The Rocky Glen School, District 34, was built in 1896. (I will include an unedited image in the discussion area of a close up of the date on the front of the school) It is located between Elmdale and Cottonwood Falls in Chase County and is visible from Highway 50. I have no history on this old school, so I have no idea when it closed its doors. I was intrigued in the fact that the two out buildings at the sides of this school were in fact outhouses...one for boys and one for girls...Something I hadn't ever seen before. This was taken in the afternoon hours, so I decided to play with light and color as original image was underexposed. I will include the original of that as well...

HAVE A GLORIOUS DAY!!

Outstanding work Jeana. As a young child my grandparents always took Sunday drives. Needless to say, they would ALWAYS take me to a school like this with out houses...just like this... boys and girls seperate.... I was amazed there wasn't 'modern' bathrooms like I had at home...lol...good to see there are still some of these around for others to LEARN what life was all about back in the 1800's. My grandparents were from the 1800's! quite interesting years! 8o) AWESOME image and history, Jeana! Thank you for sharing! 8o) #8630281

We have some old school houses around us but non this wonderful. No bells on ours. I do have a friend that lives in an old school house. Its pretty cool. Outstanding work Jeana girl, you really captured a great feel to this. I can almost see Laura Ingells walking up to it. At least that is what I think of. #8631004
