For Kara: I was within 1.5 feet from the petals, the target of my focus. This is with the 100mm f2.8L IS Macro lens. Seems to me that my lesser expensive Canon 100mm f2.8 lens allowed me to get closer. I know that my (Nikon) Nikkor 105mm f2.8 allowed me to almost touch the tiny wildflowers I captured. But I'm still experimenting with this lens, as both my 50D and the lens were purchased the winter of 2009 and are still new to me.

Exif: F Number: 14, Exposure Bias Value: 0.00, ExposureTime: 6/1 seconds, Flash: did not fire, compulsory flash mode, ISO: 200, White balance: Manual white balance, FocalLength: 100.00 mm, Model: Canon EOS 50D

What a beautiful floral capture, Bunny. The light, colors and detail are excellent and I just love it against the dark background. Exquisite. #1264816

Thank you, Nikki, for your comments. The dark background was my hedge which was in shadow. I love open shade for both portraits and flowers as the colors are so much richer. Only the mosquitoes drove me indoors. #8584848

It has turned out beautifully, and the composition is luscious!

Whenever I see a bougainvillea, I cannot help but hear the wonderful song, "Lock Keeper" by the late Canadian folk singer and song writer, Stan Rogers. "She wears bougainvillea blossoms..."

It's a sad and gorgeous song! #8585220

Wonderful close up detail Bunny, like very much the colors and the details in the textures, a beauty :) #8585680

Thank you, Kathy, Michelle, and Daniella for your wonderful, well thought out comments. They mean so much to me.

I have had problems capturing bougainvillea, but the light was beautiful, the air was still for a change, and I did this with Kara in mind, because I don't yet know my lens (or camera for that matter) and by my taking notes, I learn and share with others.

Perhaps, with your approval and can do better with the judges at BP. ;-D

Thanks again. #8586266

Thank you, Carol, for your wonderful comments. It means so much to me that a wonderful flower person, as you are has left such thoughtful comments. Perhaps, there is hope for me with this image. :-) #8586454

Beautiful... Thank you for all your info. Bunny... I appreciate every word... I do not know yet what route I will take... Judy K. is letting me try her 17-85mm.. With 500D close up... It will be considerably less expensive than the 100mm macro at this point... So I will let you know... I may buy her setup.. She said it worked well for her needs for quite a while and should work for the range I need... I hope to add many lenses someday!! #8586724
