Description

Now that the weather is warm, Silky goes out on the screened porch often (using the doggie door). Today she wanted to go out in the backyard, so Justin and I let her. Just so everyone knows, the backyard is fenced and Silky is 14+ pounds so couldn't easily get over the fence (if she even could), plus she is very timid. Also, we stay with all our animals if they are out in the fenced yard. All of our pets are indoor pets.

Outstanding capture of this regal kitty. Super clarity and color!! I love your information about letting Silky go outside. I just did the same thing today with a couple of my kitties. They are strictly indoor, too, but I just let them out for a little while since it was so beautiful and they were enthralled with everything. #1257731

My cats are indoor cats also. The only one allowed out unleashed is Kody because she comes back when called but we are always with her. A beautiful close-up of Silky=^..^= #8527388

Freddy, thank you for your kind comment. What kind of kittens do you have? I wasn't sure in the photo what kind of kitten it is. Silky looks a lot like a Himalayan but she is registered Siamese. The breeder happened to get a couple long-haired ones while breeding and bred them together to produce long-haired Siamese. I read that when breeding the apple-head Siamese, it is not uncommon to occasionally get a long-hair. So Silky does not have an undercoat such as the Persian and Himalayan and so she has soft, silky fur (hence her name) and she doesn't mat, although for the first time ever I found 4-5 small mats under her chin on her neck. She is so timid that I am not sure how I am going to get them out. Probably pay someone else to get scratched! :D

Chris, thanks for the info on your kitties and for your kind words! Silky will come to us outside when we call because she wants petted. She even came to Justin outside for petting, even though she barely will let him touch her indoors, and not often. If something scares her, she runs right to the screen door and the safety of the screen porch. She is so chubby that she isn't very fast either. She is so timid that she won't even go on the screened porch unless the sliding door is left open; she doesn't want to be locked out. However, now with the doggie door, she will go out (to the screened porch) and back in without me having to leave open the sliding door. She is so big that it is a tight fit through the doggie door though! :D
I used to have other Siamese in my lifetime that walked on a leash, one would walk all the way around the block. All the neighbors used to come out to see the cat that walked on a leash! I don't know what our cats would do if we moved to a house w/o a screened porch because they love being out there watching the birds and squirrels. We even have their scratching post and a litter box out there. #8527405

Thanks Ann! And I can't believe your little kitty notices that tiny pointer! She must have great eyesight! Something funny that our other cat used to do was try to attack the DVD tray when it came out (and went back in) of the DVD player (the one we use for the TV, not the PC one). She hasn't tried it lately, but I think its just because she hasn't been around when we were loading or unloading movies! #8527493

Thank you all so much for your kind comments about Silky! She is one of the prettiest Siamese I have owned, but unfortunately, she is timid. After getting her home, we found she had not been socialized as a young kitten. She has gotten much better, but still she is nothing like all the other Siamese I have had in my lifetime. All my others were more like a dog in seeking companionship. They were all lap (and shoulder) cats too. Very few times has Silky ever been on my lap, and then, it was only briefly. #8535908
