Thank you all so much for the kind words! I really appreciate it. I got lucky on the background - it was dark and I shot him silhouetted against the inside of an outdoor pavillion. With a little creative cropping and cloning I ended up with a solid black background. I spent the weekend at this event and got a lot of really neat stuff, some of which you all will probably be seeing in the coming days. 8^)

Thanks Gene! Did you talk to any of the people at the Center? The volunteers at this presentation were very accomodating, offering to take birds out and pose them etc. They let me get right in close and shoot as much as I wanted. However, all of the birds they show are "educational" birds that cannot be returned to the wild for one reason or another - usually they're damaged in some way. The wild birds that will be released back into the wild are kept away from human contact as much as possible. Usually they're very helpful since your photos and story can help their center with funding etc. #215113
