Thank you Mike. I've been concentrating more lately on controlling light, whether pre-shoot or post-shoot. In this case it was both.In post processing I applied dodge and burn to accent his features. Then wanted to add blue to the background black, so added a blue texture that I masked so that it did not appear on his face. The blue was assisted with a multiply blend that helped create more dramatic lighting. #10919635

Mike, here is the out of camera shot with no processing. #10919639Dale Hardin December 11, 2013 0
After posting the out of camera shot, I see that BP greatly changed the tone and color when it was processed by them. They dimmed the exposure and reduced the reds. #10919644Susan Williams December 11, 2013 0
I, too, am impressed with the quality of this portrait, Dale. The subject should buy it and pay you a lot of money for it. If one knows this man, that's one audience to admire your work; if one doesn't know this man, one wants to get inside his head to learn what he's thinking, where life has taken him...the story. Very well-done, Dale. #10919698Dale Hardin December 11, 2013 0
Thank you Susan. I have his name somewhere. He is a part time actor and has played the part of Crazy Horse. Very down to earth and pleasant fellow too. #10919824Elaine Hessler December 12, 2013 0
Wow Dale. This is fantastic. And thank you for showing us what you started with -amazing changes. I really like the silver in his hair and everything about this! #10919884Elaine Hessler December 12, 2013 0
Maybe at our next meet up we can do a little bit with lighting a portraits and/or flash. I still avoid these like the plague cause I still am not great with this subject. #10919888Dale Hardin December 12, 2013 0
Thanks Elaine. For anyone interested in the basics of TTL flash and the "how to's" check out the link in my blog. It's located on the right under favorite links. It's a short 10 lesson exercise that explains the basics of how flash works and what camera settings to use for the effect you desire. #10919996

As with Elaine I so appreciate you showing us the 'before' image even allowing for BP messing with the colors and tones.Dale Hardin December 12, 2013 0
Thanks a lot Peter. I just wish I could be more consistent. Practice, practice, practice, I guess is the order of the day. :o) #10920286
