Thanks, Julie. I appreciate the comment. #610020Jim Collier June 22, 2004
This is so cool! A very "exciting" shot. It needs a bit of sharpening though. Try an unsharp mask with amount=300 and radius=0.7 for starters. I bet you would have one had it been sharper! And if that line of hedges had not been in the shot (e.g. the band of dirt and surrounding green continued uninterrupted), you DEFINITELY would have one! Could you imagine such a cool shot? That's just purely luck though (and being ready when you see it), not skill. It looks like such a wish would be impossible anyway, as it appears there is another hedge row on the right side of the frame--maybe they are at regular intervals, making a clean shot impossible.
You could "fix" that with some careful and creative use of Photoshop, but it would be totally unethical to win a photo contest that way, where the expectation is no editing of that kind. But it would be great if your intent was an artistic shot to frame! #610315

Thank you for the lengthy comments, Jim. I appreciate them.Robert Brown June 23, 2004
Ron, this is a terrific shot--I'm glad you were able to shoot something but flowers over the last few months. I agree with the above comment on sharpening--this image isn't quite sharp. Where did you shoot it from? Did I miss that in the earlier discussion? Congratulations! #612331Ronald Balthazor June 23, 2004
Thanks, Robert. It was taken out the window of a small plane with an 80-200mm lens at 1/250 sec. on Ektachrome E100VS film near sunset. #612797Robert Brown June 24, 2004
Ron, I guess this is plenty sharp given the circumstances! Are you a pilot? #614003Ronald Balthazor June 24, 2004
No, Robert, I am not a pilot. I've been accused of getting high very often but that may be a different story. #614386Nobu Nagase June 25, 2004
This is really a great shot!Ronald Balthazor June 27, 2004
Thank you for your vote of confidence, Nobi. #619322Anderson D. Co August 21, 2005
Well done Ronald. There is a rule in photography whether you be a hobbist or a pro, if you see something interesting or anything out of the ordinary, it matters of course how you compose , expose etc. but never never never miss the shot and thats what you basically did. Hats off to you! #1745269Ronald Balthazor August 21, 2005
