Vintage Aircraft

I shot this image of the Mustang IV (P-51) through a chain link fence while it taxied on the tarmac.
I was invited onto the tarmac to get a close up view of this vintage aircraft.
The first prototype pf the P-51 was originally designed for an RAF requirement.
The mustang was capable of escorting daylight bomber formations all the way to Berlin and back providing much needed protection from German interceptors.
Technology changes rapidly but this old plane still flies the open skies.

Heather, whoever designed this airplane was as much an artist as a mechanical engineer. Its colors and lines are beautiful!Tammy M. Anderson June 30, 2012

Beautiful details, Heather!!! Fantastic shot, and through the fence no less!!! WOW!! #10208287David M. Montero June 30, 2012
The P51 did not have a significnt impact on the war until late 1944 when it's engine was replaced with a more powerful British Rolls Royce. With drop fuel tanks it was capable of excorting bombers to Germany and back. It was, and still remains, one of the most popular aircraft every built. BTW, great POV and capture Heather. #10208403Emile Abbott July 01, 2012
Great capture Heather. Will be traveling through Saskatchewan on "The Canadian" on July 28 but no stops. We will pass through Melville and Saskatoon en-route to Jasper and the Rockies. Hope to snap some shots of the Plains as we go through. #10209313Anthony G. Comella July 01, 2012
