f/8, 3 Seconds, ISO64, Tungsten
More fun exploring camera motion effects (in a single exposure) with my 'Medusa' flex-arm lamp.
During the 3 second exposure, I made 2 passes over the lamp (set on dark sheets, in an otherwise dark room);
a "north-south" pass followed immediately by an "east-west" pass.

Wow - I really like the colors in this Chris. Very fun picture. #470633Chris Budny June 23, 2006
Thanks, Tammy! Not quite as "poetic" as my other image of this lamp, "Light-Color-Motion", but it was a fun challenge last night to try and get 2 opposing passes over the lamp, in the 3 second exposure, to form the plaid! #2940376Don Johnson June 23, 2006
Very, very nice shot. But for my money, I like your "Light-Color-Motion" shot better. Both shots, however, have great, great color. #2940819Chris Budny June 23, 2006
Thanks, Don... I tend to agree! There's a different softness, almost an elegance to the other's shape, and an air of festivity, almost like party streamers in mid-air. And I thought it conveyed much more of a "motion" theme than this one--even though they are both produced by basically the same kind of camera motion. (I put this one in "Special Effects", instead of "Monthly Theme," for that reason.) #2940844Mustafa K. Al Jallad June 23, 2006
This is very beautiful Christopher, great colors well done #2943193Chris Budny June 24, 2006
Thanks so much, Mustafa! The 6 glass shades are opaque, solid color (I bent the white shade out of site, so it isn't included here) and each has a 40w bulb; the color of each when lit is very nice! I had to make many attempts at the 2-passes motion to get a nice plaid effect, with all 5 color bands in frame! #2944313Pat Gamwell June 24, 2006
You are a genious, Chris! The basketweave look is incredible! You & Don may like the other one better, but this one looks more complicated to create...thus...it is more puzzling to the viewer as to how this was created with ONE shot! (Just my humble opinion!) Both shots are SUPERB! #2946862Naomi Weiser June 25, 2006
Nice shot, great colors. love the plaid effect. #2947016Chris Budny June 25, 2006
Thank you both, Pat & Naomi. You're right, Pat, it was definitely harder to create this one than the looping one! #2948014Sharon Day June 26, 2006

I'm seeing this for the first time and am truly impressed! Super in-camera effects!! Love the colors and pattern! Definitely an abstract I'd put on my wall! Belated CONGRATS Chris! (I've enjoyed looking through your gallery - wonderful work!!) #3790082Chris Budny January 07, 2007
Thank you Susana, for such kind words! I confess on this one, I had to take MANY practice shots before I got all the timing, camera moves and positioning sorted out, to make it work out! #3791368Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
