Description

The first weekend of March resulted
in a little road trip to the north-
west part of the state of Kansas.
There, in the middle of the flat
plains stands this wondrous sight...
I've been waiting a long time to get photos of this place called...

Monument Rocks....

Named a National Natural Landmark by the US Department of the Interior, the first such designation in Kansas.
Though they stand on private property,
the owners are generous enough to allow visitors to walk around these natural wonders. (Please act accordingly when you visit)
Erosion has carved these chalk pyramids from what was once the floor of a vast inland sea. The chalk formations reach a height of up to 70 ft. and include formations such a buttes and arches. They were formed 80 million years ago.

On January 29, 2008, Monument Rocks was named as one of the 8 Wonders of Kansas.
