Hummer Mommy is Back at our Hospital

Uploaded: March 12, 2010

Description

Wow, another hummingbird is nesting just about a foot from last years nest. It is cool to see how they use spider web material and bits of colored stuff to camouflage their nests. Apparently they continue to build the nest while they are nesting. The males apparently don't help with sitting on the eggs.

This year my goal is to catch the mother in the act of feeding the fledglings.

Now the nest is closer to the hallway window and there is by and large no interposing branches.
Again, I love how photography allows one to study the little details, like the white spots on the "eye brow."

Beautiful image, Richard... great comp and details. I've never seen them at their nest, but I have seen the spider web remnants on their wings and beaks. Congrats on your Finalist! #1260343
