Description

This is the third image from my brown bear series in National Geographic (Dutch edition), which was used as the opening shot for the article. This young bear cub rocketed up a tree when it heard another bear approaching. The obvious choice here was to make a vertical composition to emphasize the vertical direction and the height of the trees, but I preferred to use the different layers of tree trunks in combination with shallow dof.

Bravo, Marsel! This is wonderful. Congrats on your image being used in National Geo! What an honor and what a perfect image for them, too!

Amazing timing on your part!

Great Capture.
For people who have never seen a Cub scale a tree in a hurry its something you can not fully appreciate unless seen live. They are as Nimble and nearly as fast as a squirrel while weighing maybe 30 lbs.
ALSO have no hesitation of going right to the top of a 125 foot tree...
Where was MOMMY BEAR during your shooting????

Happy Shooting
