Afternoon Bus on the Levee

Uploaded: March 07, 2010 20:52:05

Description

Shot this afternoon (3/7) at the levee along the Ohio River in Kentucky, on a tripod. 1/6th of a second. With polarizer and ndx4 filters to darken scene. Really saturated the bus, just for kicks.

Cool idea. Love the colours. Very abstract, did you take others that included a bit more of the vehicle or were you going for the mystery? #1310457

Very intriqued by your image, Greg. I keep going back to it and love the motion of the bus. Somehow I keep getting hung up on the foreground and strong yellow line. Have you thought about cropping out the foreground? When I try to visualize that, it gives me more of the motion feeling. Would love to see how it looks that way. Then again, am sure you have your reasons for including the foreground, so please consider my comment just a very humble opinion. It's a great capture just as is. Love the colors and the parking meters. Awesome! #8923441

Jane and Janet: Thanks for the comments. I forgot I had joined this club a while back, and just found it again (!), and so this is the first time I have entered anything. I appreciate the fact that club members are making comments and suggestions. Jane:The only other vehicle shots I had were of cars, and they didn't make near the impact of color the bus did. This was the only bus shot. Janet: I like that crop suggestion...it would make it a panorama, but that would flow nicely with the horizontal motion. Can you crop from the BP site? This shot is on my other computer which is in for repairs, and so won't have access to it for awhile. #8923855

Glad you found the club again, it seems like a really good one. Not sure you can crop from BP. I have had to use the snipping tool before, if your windows version has one, to check files that were already posted. If you do, use the tool to snip the part you want to save, then save to your hd. I just did your image and have it saved in a crop if you are unable to do so and would like it posted here in the comments section. Just let me know. Looks pretty sweet as panorama too. #8923873

I am working on a Mac, and so maybe I have that capability, but if you already did it, please post it! I'd love to see it. #8924263

OK, here goes. Hope it works! Like I said, won't be great quality but let's see how it looks on here. #8924283

Thanks Janet. I am so used to seeing the other version, that at first impression, this one looks too tight to me. But let me get used to it. What do you think? #8924292

Janet Dietz September 22, 2010

I agree, it does seem a little tight. Maybe with the full image to work with, you will be able to determine a better crop line. I did a rush with just that screen snipping tool. Maybe a little more foreground?? Hopefully some of the others will chime in here with an opinion???? There are some extremely talented people lurking out there, I know!! LOL #8924297

Glad you found the club again. I'm new here and have enjoyed the comments and now look forward to each week's "challenge". Its habit forming. Seems like a terrific group of people and photos. I kept going back to your photo - I really like the colors - but also wanted to see a little more form to the moving subject. As is, very abstract. Thanks for showing. #8927855

Greg,
I love the photo! I think the idea of the motion for the bus is wonderful and the colors are spectacular. I too thought it would look better cropped but maybe not as tight as Janet cropped it for you. Maybe you can play around with it yourself in photoshop. I think the yellow lines take away from the motion of the bus but overall it's a wonderful photo! #8928695

Cropping and possibly cloning out the yellow lines might also make the image less busy. I kind of think that they distract your eye away from the bus.

On the other hand maybe leaving them in will lead your eye to the moving bus. However, I'd have the line all the way to the bottom of the image. The line starts a little above the bottom of the image so it has a harder time leading you in.

The fun with images is that it's the artists choice and so many options to choose from.

It is a really cool image. I love these motion blur pics and the colors here are wonderful. #8929975
