Sharps Island Lighthouse
Description: The Sharps Island Lighthouse, located on the Eastern shores of Maryland in the Chesapeake Bay, has a very distinct look. Not only is the 37-foot tower a cast iron caisson, it lists -- tipped over about 15 degrees when large ice flows pushed up against the tower during a harsh winter in 1976-1977. This tower, the third light at the site, was built in 1881. It's always been one of my favorite lighthouses; I treated this photo, which is a couple of years old, to give it an HDR look, but the skies were pretty dramatic to begin with. Happy Hump Day, everyone!
