Description

January 18, 2010 – The Survivor
This is one of three pieces of cloisonné that my dad brought home to my mother after his time in Japan where he was on VJ day. I have always cherished this particular single vase. At one time it was part of a set. I often wonder what was the fate of the other one? I am sure my mother was devastated when this one broke. When I brought this vase down from its place on the étagère to take the image you see here, I discovered a piece of paper inside with a little note handwritten by my mother which tells the reader that this pamphlet came with the vase itself. It tells us how cloisonné is made and its history. My mother was a very thorough woman and knew that one day I would find this inside her favorite vase.
