ALL WASHED UP!

Uploaded: December 02, 2009

Description

If someone directed you to an obscure beach area in the southern part of Kauai and you followed their directions only to end up in what appears to be a dump in the industrial area of Ele'ele' and where you had to park your car behind rusty gasoline tanks, would you stay? Or would you hightail it out of there cursing at the thought of being sent on a wild goose chase around the Island? We stayed, found some REAL shoes, grabbed the camera and found "What is One Man's Trash is Another Man's Treasure". This kaleidoscope of amazing colors, textures and light is millions of pieces of broken glass, polished smooth by ocean waves and washed up with broken bottles and auto parts on an ugly beach. This is the best trash/garbage you will find anywhere in the world!

Here are a couple of more shots that I got that day. Nothing spectacular, but interesting. #1211965

This is THE best garbage shot in the world I think!!! How beautiful.... Aren't you glad you ventured in Deb? Fantastic shots... but of course the main course is delicious! #8186421

I loved all this glass. People aren't supposed to pick it up but obviously they do because jewerly vendors all over the island seem to have "beach glass" jewelry. Thank you for your kind comments. Joan. I would sure like to know what that rusted, corroded piece of metal is from. #8186530

My wife loves beach glass and picks it up wherever we go - usually one or two small pieces is all she finds. I am definitely not taking her to this beach.

Fantastic discovery and beautifully captured. I think you have found some real artistry in the what was once trash. #8186841

Thank you Debbie for sharing this wonderful place and the beauty there. Well done. If I can ever get back to Kauai, this will surely be on our list of what to see. #8186874

I think you chose the high road when you decided to stay and take photos...Love the colors and textures!
The first post is beautiful and Jewels in the Sand and Sun has a beautiful warm quality to it. Great find :) #8191467

Debbie, these are wonderful pictures. I think it's great that you stayed and made the most out of the trip.

I think in your first post some of the glass looks like it's floating. The next two are really cool abstract shots. I have no idea what the rusty thing is in the last one. :)

Beautiful abstract photos Debbie, some times one must make the best of a bad situation and you did an amazing job. #8196445

Thank you Teresa, Ken and Susan. After I got over the shock of this quirky little beach, it was lots of fun. I don't think I had my macro with me. I'd go back in a flash to "comb" through that area again. #8198721

Wow...what a beautiful trashy shot! I'm so glad this got an EP so I could see it as I must have already bowed out of the Phellos at that point. I'm glad you decided to stay and explore instead of taking off! :~) Congrats on your EP! #8431708
