Description

Magnetic Lasso Tool was used to get the basic shape, and the quick Selection Tool was used to take out the small imperfections on a Duplicate layer. There are small things that need to be cloned out. I'll do that later. I found it was a bit easier to add than subtract areas. Then I used Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur at 200% and Radius = 80 pixels to get the wide open- shallow depth of field-blur background effect.

I think that part was achieved, however, while I tried to keep the flower sharp I had a hard time getting rid of the line off the stem. I created another duplicate layer and selected a kind of shape elongating the stew by using the Polygonal Lasso Tool. I select Feathering = 10 and used the same Gaussian Blur filter at 11 to blur out the sharp line. It's not great but better. Is this the way? Or is there a better technique? Thanks.
