Beautiful feline portrait Mary - love Rascal's expression! Is Rascal a calico or tortie and white? It's hard for me to tell here, but they are usually girls. >^..^< #8129902

Mary K. Robison November 14, 2009

Hi, Cindy ~ thanks for your friendly comments.
I'm uploading a photo of Rascal, so you can see his entire back area is a solid color. He has white "socks" on all his paws, and the white ruff around his neck. My husband says he's a typical medium-haired "tuxedo" cat.
Per Wikipedia:
"Tortoiseshell...Cats of this color are mottled, with patches of orange or cream and chocolate, black or blue. They are sometimes called torties for short.
The term "tortoiseshell" is typically reserved for cats with brindled coats that have relatively few or no white markings.
Those that are largely white with red and brown patches (rather than a brindled aspect) are described as tortoiseshell-and-white (in the United Kingdom) or calico (in Canada and the United States)."
Rascal doesn't match either description, so for now, it's still 50-50 on he being a she! ;-D
Thanks for getting me curious enough to google a bit tonight, Cindy.
Have a great weekend! #8129983
