Japanese Maple

Uploaded: October 25, 2009

Description

f/18 @ .4 sec., ISO 800, 24mm. The compositional elements I was working for include "filling the frame" and "order out of chaos", namely the numerous, sculptural, moss-covered black branches and thousands of pointy maples leaves. I should also include "working the scene" since I made several dozen shots of this very old, not too big tree. The thin, filtered light lit up the oranges leaves but was not strong enough to support a lower ISO, since I was determined to use a small aperture to preserve detail in as many leaves as possible.

Thanks to both of you! This is an image for the William Neill landscape class I'm taking right now - it's a lot of fun. #8072317

Many thanks Thomas! I enjoyed looking through your gallery and saw many familiar scenes: I lived in Santa Fe for almost 20 years and for 8 years in Colorado. Unfortunately, didn't take up photography until I retired and moved to Oregon! #8076643
