Keep your eyes open
Description: f/5.6, 1/400, 100-400mm @ 310mm, Woodland Park Zoo.
Keep your eye on the viewfinder AND keep the other eye open to orient yourself to possibilities.
The mother and her 9mo cub were cuddling, in the right corner of the enclosure I took the first shot, then noticed the other cub was stalking them, so I waited.
Use servo focus when you are using a narrow depth of field (light, sure wish I had 2.8 available for light and subject/background isolation) and know the subjects might change distance suddenly.
DO's but didnt
Use motor drive, I missed a lot of the action because I was in single select mode and was trying to pick my shots, big mistake.
Use an artificial looking background, this wasnt something I could select, but it does detract, I couldnt isolate the subjects either, they were too close to the back, I too far away.
