Orchid Climbing
Uploaded: October 06, 2009
How some of my outside orchids survived the heat of this past summer in Central TX, I have no idea but they actually thrived! Here, a little insect of some sort enjoyed a little "orchid climbing" on one of the blooms...
(Many thanks to Maria Gonzalez for ID'ing this little bug - it's an assassin bug! Not exactly a "pretty" name for such an innocent looking insect!)

Oh yes, these li'l guys are called "true bugs" because they have those li'l piercing and sucking mouth parts .. and are predators. They just inject their lethal saliva into their victims, liquify their innards then slurp it up through their little straw-like mouth parts. And they have a painful bite too, so keep your distance! But .. they are good for your garden because they kill so many pests. In which case, hide the Hot Shot .. and the R-A-I-D!!!Some very nice colors here, Val .. great composition and just super all around presentation! Great job!
