What a great shot of a deer.....how did you get that close? I have never seen any deer with a black patch between their eyes. Must be the kind of deer you have there. :~) #1188919Debbie E. Payne October 06, 2009
I was WAY too close to him, but couldn't help myself. I had his undivided attention here. I think he may have been telling me to "Back Off, Lady". I got a couple of others but it was getting pretty dark and they were moving all over the yard. This was taken with my 70-300 zoom - And I didn't even need all the zoom, I was that close to him. Judging by the size of his rack, he is pretty young. He may be a mule deer. #8014372Susan M. Reynolds October 22, 2009
He does look ready to charge - I would have been running the opposite direction! I saw a news clip of a man getting attacked by a buck...I wouldn't even try it unless I was safe in a car with a get-away driver after seeing that news clip. You are one brave chick! lol #8057557Debbie E. Payne October 22, 2009
Susan, The car was right close by and I since I was shooting with my 70-300 at about 250 I felt like I could get back in the car if I needed to. These deer are pretty tame and can always be found roaming the streets in Ouray at all times of the day and early evening. I was more afraid of the big huge elk that we nearly ran over on the road at dusk on the way home that weekend. He came out from the brush and was running alongside our car for a while and then lept in front of us. I was probably "previewing" shots on my camera because I didn't see any of the running alongside the car business but I sure looked up when the brakes went on and there was this huge elk and it seemed like there was a younger, smaller one alongside. I was so glad that he made it across the street and didn't get hit by the car coming our direction. Needless to say, we made sure that we were not the lead car all the way home that night. #8058508Susan M. Reynolds October 22, 2009
Wow what a story! You must live in a pretty rural area - what part of the country? Are you far from a town or city or did you just take a drive for the shoot? #8059064Debbie E. Payne October 22, 2009
We live in Colorado Springs which is a fairly good-sized city and Denver is just up the road about an hour away. Two weekends in October are dedicated to "finding fall color" so we did one day trip one weekend and a three day trip the second weekend. It's always great to get away from home every once in a while! Thanks for asking, Susan. The second weekend in Ouray was much more rural and further away from any big city. #8059669Aimee C.
