This juvenile black crowned night heron (I think!) stood, seemingly in terror, on the bulkhead rail and allowed me to approach within three feet before finally taking tentative flight.
----------
Overlooking Reynolds Channel in Long Beach, Long Island, NY.
----------
Added the clouds, as the sky was a monotonous crystal blue that August morning.
----------
Used my new awesome Canon 85 mm prime.

Excellent wildlife photography Michelle. Love the detail and of course your editing.
So you're out there terrorizing the animals again Michelle. Of course he was scared. Animals are always afraid of humans who approach stealthily pointing Howitzer size lenses at them. The poor thing is most likely still in therapy. You had better hope the Great Blue Heron doesn't get wind of this. He may come over to your place and eat all the frogs and gold fish in your pond like he did last year. I wonder if that was some kind of vendetta? #8003753
