Description

~ The Frost Bank Tower - Austin, TX ~

Ever since it's completion in 2004, the Frost Bank Tower has had its share of both admirers and detractors. Altho voted the best building in Austin by the readers of a local newspaper, the same paper editorialized it as looking like a huge owl looming over Austin....and claimed it added to Austin's reputation of "weirdness"...(The city's unofficial logo being, "Keep Austin Weird"). A daily columnist from yet another paper described it as "an enormous set of nose hair trimmers." (!!) Personally, I like it. When it's lit at night, the "points" and beautiful silvery blue glass facade glows softly and really adds to the already beautiful Austin skyline...just wish I could get past that description of a nose hair trimmer!! :)

Sadly, nose hair trimmer seems to fit...

Still, great capture of this very interesting building, Valarie (and I can image what it must look like at night)! #1185645

I think it looks kind of cool Valarie. I like how the person standing on the bridge gives perspective as to how big it really is. The people of Austin should be proud of your capture of this unique building. You have done it justice and composed and presented it beautifully. #7990837

Terrific EOD Valarie!! isn't it funny how some people will criticize anything unusual and make fun of it usually because they feel safer being ordinary? #7991079

Nadya Johnson September 28, 2009

This is a stunning city capture, Valarie! As I have not been to Austin, it gives me a whole new viewpoint of the city! As for the building - I rather like it too. Do you remember the FUROR in San Francisco when they built the Pyramid??? Oh, what a ruckus. If you were already in Ohio or lived elsewhere, you probably heard it all the way over there! LOL People tend to freak out over new things, whether art ot architecture. Later on, why they "loved it all along." Right! Anyway, this is really beautiful!
