Dancing in the Cell Block

Uploaded: September 27, 2009

Description

---
For some reason, when I spotted this person under the skylight near the entrance to this decrepit cell block, I thought, "It's Fred Astaire!" My camera was on the wrong settings but I had no time to adjust them and just barely enough time to snap it. The result: An almost black image.
-----------
In Adobe Camera Raw, there's a vast amount of things you can do with sliders, and the more I did, the more I played, the more this picture grew on me. Then, in CS4, I applied several iterations of noise removal, a black and white conversion, a yellow overlay using OnOne Phototools, and some saturation adjustments...maybe some more.
---------
But there's something about "Fred Astaire" that I really like. Maybe it's just the thought of seeming to be dancing in the cell block.
-----------
If anyone is in the Philadelphia area, Eastern State Penetentiary becomes a Haunted House for Halloween, and is tauted as the scariest one EVER!

Oh, I REALLY like this, Michelle!! Sometimes photography is posed, set up, lit, timed, analyzed, etc. etc. -- but in the end nothing beats a true, not-to-be-repeated, totally unique slice of life captured on the fly! And that to me in many ways, is the real art, especially when it comes to candids or street photography. This is marvelous!!! Its imperfections only make it all the more intriguing to me and your editing is tops! A fave! I love the whimsy of it, too! What Fred would think -- well, I dunno. LOL! #7992614
