A beautiful misty morning light Peter. I do find the colours rather unreal though and am wondering if you have tried the shot in mono. It could turn out more powerful. I find the swing takes up too much of the image and am wondering if it could have been taken from further back and another angle although I realise you need it in the space between the two evergreens. I know you have reduced the glare of the sun somewhat by placing it behind the tree but I also think the light might have been more impressive without including the actual sun in the shot. #8042781

Thanks a lot Kate! I can go with everything you say. However, this was an image made this way with intent. I was taking Jim Zuckerman's 4 week course on natural lighting and he asked us for a 'moody' image for that week's assignment. The image turned out a little too warm and frankly rather beautiful and dreamy and what I wanted was to give it a little edginess and mystery. The sun really was bright and I very much wanted it in the shot. In retrospect I think the title should have been something like "Into the light" suggesting perhaps the journey into the great beyond of eternity and explaining the darkness of the empty swing.
Is that too weird? But thanks again Kate; I value all critiques that explain why the reponder thinks that way.

I do like this photo a lot. I can definitely understand it "moody" quality with the early morning or evening sun coming from behind in rays of light. "Into the Light" would be a cool name...maybe suggesting the dawn of a new day and hope children coming to play on the swing still shrouded in misty semi-darkness.
Great effort here Pete.

p.s. Just got my computer set up and back online so I was able to check out the email you sent last week and will be working on the photos of Andrea. I like what you did it looks much better. I'll be trying to duplicate it! lol #8118119

I'm not sure what your aim for this image was, but I just got a chill down my spine....reminds me of a scary movie! Thanks for joining in Photography A-Z! :~) #8118167

Many thanks Susan and Aimee. I only came across A-Z last evening and it was fun looking through my BP stuff for appropriate images although I guess the real object of this is to go out and shoot new stuff. There are so many thousands of images on BP that probably none of us get to see more than a tiny proportion of other folks' creativity, but at least with A-Z we can focus attention on at least a few.
I am glad you got the "chill up the spine" Aimee; that means I sort of succeeded. When I adjusted the image to submit to Jim Zuckerman's request for a "moody" image for his class, in my mind's eye I saw those scenes in movies where someone is being hunted down through a foggy forest. Maybe it was that scene in "ET".
And I like your suggestion Susan. Especially as you have focussed on the positive, of children to come, not those that have left. I first shot an almost identical image five years ago but with the empty swing depicting our parent angst at daughter Betsy who had left home to go to FGCU at Fort Myers. Fla.
Happy to see you back online Susan!
