Petrified Jack, Petrified Forest-AZ
Uploaded: September 15, 2009
One of the local residents in the Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona.
The Petrified Forest National Park is along Interstate 40 between Holbrook and Navajo, in the United States. It features one of the world's largest and most colorful concentrations of petrified wood, mostly of the species Araucarioxylon arizonicum.
The park consists of two large areas connected by a north–south corridor. The northern area called the Painted Desert. The southern area includes colorful terrain and several concentrations of petrified wood. Several American Indian petroglyph sites are also found in the southern area.

Neat "catch," Denny -- he probably IS petrified, but at seeing a human! Quite an interesting part of the country. There's an amazing variety of colors in the striations. Well done! #7945354Carrie M. Groseclose September 15, 2009

A rare moment...a jack rabbit sitting still. How did you accomplish that? Great image of the little guy! And the background info about the location is informative and very interesting. Excellent work as always, my friend. #7945951Denny E. Barnes September 15, 2009
Thank you Mike, Bobby, Ron and Jack! We have a few Jacks around here but considerably more Cottontails. I see them in my yard all the time and they are also very fast and don't like their picture taken..LOL.. #7946461Stefania Barbier September 15, 2009

Woohoo! Denny, great capture here, I've got some shots of Painted dessert area myself sometime back when we headed to Sedona, which is another fantastic place. This is one place in the world where the colors are simply outstanding. It gets my heart racing every time I think of these places. Great sights. #7947708Denny E. Barnes September 16, 2009

Well done, Denny. I've seen many of these creatures, but never was able to capture one in photo. I never want to move as fast as a jack rabbit. #7950925Denny E. Barnes September 17, 2009
