The Fire Starter, Field Burning-Oregon
Uploaded: August 31, 2009
Field burning season again. Our neighbor burned their grass fields a couple days ago. They burn to get rid of the straw, stubble and to sterilize the soil. They have to check daily to see if it's a burn day for smoke control. If given the go ahead, they have to be done in one hour so it's one big rush..
Exif: F Number: 5.6, Exposure Bias Value: 0.67, ExposureTime: 1/125 seconds, Flash: did not fire., ISO: 200, White balance: Manual white balance, FocalLength: 135.00 mm, Model: NIKON D300

There is a whole crew made up of local farmers that do the field burning, so when it's a burn day they will be madly rushing around from field to field to get the job done in the short time allotted to them. #1174863Carrie M. Groseclose August 31, 2009

This is interesting, Denny. I had heard farmers did this but never had seen it. All three images are fantastic. Excellent details and clarity. Great job with this. #7904451Robert R. Goodman August 31, 2009

WOW! What a great set of graphic images Denny! Fire is a great tool, but a deadly enemy! #7904670Ron McEwan August 31, 2009
The last I checked, the boys in Kansas are a little more relaxed and they do it in the spring generally. You captured the action well here for sure Denny. #7904841Denny E. Barnes August 31, 2009
Thank you Carrie, Mike, Kerry, Marcel, Tammy, Bobby, John and Ron for the very nice comments!! I think they only have a year or two left before no more field burning. Some farmers will no longer grow rye grass because of it. There was only a small area this year that was allowed to be burned. #7905419Barbara Waldoch September 01, 2009
Terrific capture, Denny! #7905799Denny E. Barnes September 01, 2009

WOW...what a challenge especially in light of how quickly it could get out of control! #7907025Marty Straub September 01, 2009
Wow, it's like fishihng inDebra R. Harder September 01, 2009
WOW, Denny! What a terrific scene. I didn't realize they'd let you burn in August. The burning restrictions are very tight here in the Rogue Valley. I believe we have until April or early May. The smoke gets trapped in the valley and can cause some real problems for people. Anyhow...there I go again...back to your image...it's FANTASTIC!! Deb #7907227Denny E. Barnes September 01, 2009
Thank you ever so much Ray, Marty and Deb! #7908602Howard B. Cheek September 02, 2009
