Well I can't see PP so I'm guessing south...near Air Force Academy? #1152447

Vicki Snow July 10, 2009

I agree, Vicki! If I leave here I will have to be handcuffed and dragged over the state line. I'm sorry you aren't here anymore. We could go shooting together. All I know is that we aren't going to be seeing any armadillos in CO, that's for sure! #7736381

Dale Hardin July 13, 2009

Absolutely gorgeous Debbie. Fantastic sky, sharp details, interesting foreground, excellent composition. Love it. #7736492

Debbie this is beautiful, one thing about CSprings is the clouds, you can count on the clouds like this some time in the day one minute blue sky and next clouds like whats in your picture. I am enjoying having my daughter and family here in Ohio but look forward to them going back to CSprings he taught at the AF Academy. The coloring is beautiful in this pictue. If I may ask did you use the topaz filter on this or another filter. I am trying to understand how everyone gets the effects on thier pictures.
Again very nicely done thier isn't anything I would change about this picture. #7736502

Just signed up for a Layers class online and this is week 1 and already I am getting some good results working with layers, that although talked about in PP, the light bulb is beginning to turn on now. Of course no work for a few days. My computer is coming hoMmer" is another one I worked on for this class.

Small world, isn't it, Rita? I can practically see the Academy from where I live. In fact just went out there today to fill a prescription. Next coincidence: my daughter is now living in Cleveland, working on Year 2 of a three year fellowship in Neonatology and just beginning a Master's degree in Epidemiology - the study of disease which is going to help her with grant-writing for her neonatal studies. Spent last Christmas with her in Cleveland ---BRRRRRRRR! #7736570

I'm just now re-reading this and it doesn't make any sense. The last sentence in the first paragraph is all messed up. It should read, "My computer is coming home tomorrow', but I don't know where that last part came from. Working from a laptop is seriously challenging my typing... I think I deleted the first part of the sentence that probably said something about how the balloon landscape with the test on it that I posted earlier this week will also be a submission for the class. I'm "retiring" my hyperactive" fingers for the night now... #7736578

Christie R. Bielss July 14, 2009

Great image Debbie! Only been to CSprings once - but it was gorgeous. You're awefully close to TX and OK to say that you will never see an armadillo....you never know when one might mistake the CO border for the TX border!

I feel your pain with the laptop. Whenever I use my husband's the cursor always ends up all over the place. I'm scatterbrained enough without the computer helping add to it! #7737774

Beautiful colors and clarity in this shot. The one thing I don't seem to be able to get in my photos is the beautiful distance clarity of the mountains you captured here - any secret or is it just the clear air in CO. #7738239

Jeanine M. Bailey July 14, 2009

WOW! What a breathtaking scene!! :) Just beautiful Debbie!!! :):):) #7738275

Jodi M. Walsh July 14, 2009

just beautiful! would love to visit out that way some day. the furthest west i've been is Iowa. #7738688

Anthony L. Mancuso July 14, 2009

This is lovely Deb, great comp and excellent detail in the mountains, as Michael pointed out..I'm guessing you replaced the sky and one thing that bothers me a little is that the clouds behind the mountain perspectively appear like they are actually closer to the viewer than the distance of the mountains would indicate.... #7740182

Debbie E. Payne July 14, 2009

No, the sky is not replaced. A gradient filter was applied to it with a soft blend mode. #7740276

Debbra Bailey July 14, 2009

Deb - Since this morning when I glanced through the Phellos gallery but didn't have time to comment, I have been singing "One fine da-ay..." Were you thinking of the song?

This is beautiful - just stunning. I do wonder about the sky though, as I can see Anthony's thought on perspective. #7740277

Debbie E. Payne July 14, 2009

At least I don't think I did. Got my computer home but now I can't open ANY of my camera raw files. Go figure. It may be a LONG time before I am up and running smoothly again. Drat! #7740289

Debbie E. Payne July 14, 2009

I went back to my other pictures for this particular day and everywhere we went the clouds looked like this. - Same day, three other similar clouds in slightly different locations.
#7740395

Debbie E. Payne July 14, 2009

Third one didn't show up. Here is the last of the three. It's late, finally got the computer to work. Had to reload CS3 and all my filters along with trying to figure out how to update my RAW files. What a nightmare! #7740403

Rita K. Connell level-classic July 15, 2009

Oh... that is so CSpring with the clouds, the other pictures are beautiful also especially the last one. Debbie you mention you signed up for a Layers class online. Give us more info on it, that is something I could benefit from I'm sure. Hope your computer nightmare ends for you soon. #7741079

Christie R. Bielss July 15, 2009

Those are just Fall/Winter clouds in the mtns. Used to go to Park City, UT every Fall and these beauties would just pop up. The sky is such a beautiful and clear blue that it just enhances them even more. These are all beauties! #7741275

Anthony L. Mancuso July 15, 2009

Wow..those are all beautiful Deb..you cold put out your own calender of the area with these images..must be my own sense of perception that is off! #7741278

Debbie E. Payne July 15, 2009

Thank you all. It is funny how a photo you've overlooked for nearly nine months gets a facelift and it becomes one of your favorites. I hesitate throwing pics away and therefore have a problem with way too much on my computer. How do all of you deal with file management?

Tony, after you commented that it looked like I'd replaced the sky and I emphatically said "No", I decided that I had done one or two sky replacements and was hoping this wasn't one of them. After I got the computer back, I went looking for photos of that same day and sure enough the clouds have for my shots that day have a lot of the same qualities. Colorado skies are unsurpassable, IMHO. But then, I live here so I am prejudiced.

Christie - That is my Fall goal -- go to to Park City (and stay at my son's apartment - for a few days this fall. I feel a horrible four day week-end kind of flu coming on!!! #7741430

Hi Debbie,
The first photo is just stunning and the others are all great too! Absolutely beautiful country :) Nice job capturing it so well. #7742798

Debbie E. Payne July 15, 2009

I put this one for today's submit and I cannot stop signing that dang song!!! I am about to order it in a 16x60 on metallic paper along with my Crested Butte one. Pretty soon my house wont be a house anymore but a gallery. Can I hang up a sign and use my house as a tax deduction.....

Thank you all for your incredible response to this one! #7742838

Sharon Lohrmann July 15, 2009

wow, I missed alot of good discussion here. debbie are you taking richard lynch's leveraging layers class? i've been wanting to take that one.

all of these images are just beautiful. the colors, tones, and details are excellent. nothing but kudos. #7743233

Debbie E. Payne July 15, 2009

No, sharon, I tried to take this class last year but was told that I wasn't ready for this class and to take the more basic one, which was too basic and so I wasted a couple hundred dollars taking one that was too easy. Will email you more details. #7743635

Christie R. Bielss July 16, 2009

Email me the info too, if you get a second! #7744711

Jeanine M. Bailey July 16, 2009

Me three please!! :) #7744762

Susan M. Reynolds level-addict July 16, 2009

I too would like the information as I was trying to take Richard Lynch's class with my MVP 50% discount but it is full through next year for the MVP's. It would probably be too advanced for me especially since I can't figure much out about layers. I'd like another alternative before I take his class.
Thnx :) #7745117

Dale Hardin July 16, 2009

Another alternative the $$$$ for the classes are excellent books available for pennies on the dollar at Amazon.com for your respective software. That coupled with just getting in there and trying different things at every opportunity can save a bunch of money and leave you free to follow your own schedule.

Just a thought. #7745356

Debbie E. Payne July 16, 2009

I would say that 75% of the classes I took benefitted me well. Most all were taken before the "Clubs" concept and I think if we'd had the Club option back then that I wouldn't need to have taken most of them. As for layers, I was just not getting them, even though, with more than adequate instruction from you and others who understand layers, I was getting some amazing results but there were still enough holes in there that I thought I'd try a class one more time.

Your tutorials have been amazingly helpful and maybe I'll understand the why's a bit better after this course...it's only four weeks, so it isn't breaking the bank or taking up too much of my time like an 8 week class would. #7745450

Debbie E. Payne July 17, 2009

This image got passed over for an EP and if you look very closely at the image, does anyone see why? I know EXACTLY why and I wanted to share with you to really look over what gets sent in even though you might have nothing but positive comments by your Phellos. Not one of the 11 of us that looked at this saw this pretty apparent flaw and I think that is pretty unbelievable. I've already fixed it and here is the corrected image that will be a re-sub for next month. #7749975

Vicki Snow July 17, 2009

the 2 marks in the clouds on the right side ...i think it was ur mouses fault...sometimes they do weird stuff...sneaky guys...Ü #7750008

Debbie E. Payne July 17, 2009

My guess is it was dust on the sensor. Oh well, the good news, is I can re-submit next month and the better news is that I saw this right after I entered it and fixed it BEFORE I sent in to Mpix for the poster-sized image. Now I know that I can print my images this size. It is amazing quality. Worth every bit I paid for it minus 25%.

I also got a smaller sized poster of the Colorado is the Place to Be This Summer and an even bigger one of my Crested Butte barn and sunset. Now to find a bare wall... #7750022

Dale Hardin July 17, 2009

Had to search for this one Debbie and wouldn't have seen it without Vicki's hint. On my monitor and at this reduced resolution, those areas looked like areas that the sky was showing through.

The thing I noticed was the large white spot above the tip of the limb at the center and the right edge of the shot. But it is still there, so evidently that was not it.

Would love to print ran out of walls years ago. :0) #7750350

Debbie E. Payne July 17, 2009

Dale, I think the white spot may be where the clouds are showing through the trees, but that might be another consideration. However, my poster-sized print turned out REALLY well. Now I have to get a frame for it. But I think Aaron Brothers is still having it's Buy One, Get a Second One for a Penny sale! #7750373
