The roots of a lotus are in the mud, the stem grows up through the water, and the heavily scented flower lies pristinely above the water, basking in the sunlight. This pattern of growth signifies the progress of the soul from the primeval mud of materialism, through the waters of experience, and into the bright sunshine of enlightenment and re-connection with spirit.

Beautiful exposure, Julianne. Love the yellow light. Pray for the mudders ~those stuck in the mud of materialism. #7710602Julianne Bradford July 06, 2009 0
Thanks so much Laura,Melissa,Brett,Clyde,Stefania,Kerri,Barbara,Carol,Dominick,Valarie,Candice,Monnie,Melissa! Thanks Sabrina, your comment means so much to me because you are the waterlily expert! Thanks Jack and Marty thanks for the reminder, we should all pray for those stuck in materialism and for ourselves.Plato imagines a group of people who have lived chained in a cave all of their lives, facing a blank wall. The people watch shadows projected on the wall by things passing in front of the cave entrance, and begin to ascribe forms to these shadows. According to Plato, the shadows are as close as the prisoners get to seeing reality. He then explains how the philosopher is like a prisoner who is freed from the cave and comes to understand that the shadows on the wall are not constitutive of reality at all, as he can perceive the true form of reality rather than the mere shadows seen by the prisoners
I really appreciate all your comments! #7710745

This is very beautiful,julianne..I like how you were able to isolate the green pods from the beautiful lily..The lighting is amazing and the composition as well.Very well done. #7712477Julianne Bradford July 07, 2009 0
Thanks Maria, The sun was coming through the trees that shaded the bloom in just the right place at just the right time. I was a student of Yoganandas teachings(the original yogi that started the SRF who lived on this beautiful Encinitas Bluff) I feel I was blessed with the light on this beautiful Lotus flower in his behalf. #7712512A P July 07, 2009 0

This is stunning, Julianne! The light is wonderful. I really like the "parchment" of those pretty glowing petals! Congratulations on another awesome finalist!(Also, enjoyed your commentary. Read, or see enough about M-theory and quantum mechanics and you realize ALL we really see or know about, are "shadows," chimeras and wisps of Unreality. In fact - we're just as shadowy, ourselves! If you expand an atom so the nucleus is the size of a pea and you put it in a HUGE cathedral such as Notre Dame, the electrons surrounding it would be flickering against the outer walls! I believe it was Einstein who said, "The universe is stranger than you can even imagine." Not exact but close... !) #7872661
