For this creation I started with a simple photo of an art deco chair taken in the Orsay Museum in Paris (original in discussion). After I did levels and basic adjustments on the chair, I used the marquee tool to select a rectangular area, copy, and paste, thus creating a separate layer with that portion of the picture. I put an edge and texture on the selection, and then transformed, rotated and positioned it. I repeated the process for each rectangle in the final work. Finally I merged the layers, did more levels work to the whole, and applied a texture layer (actually from a stucco wall) and multiply blend mode to the whole.

Very creative and the result is outstanding and interesting.Mitch Spence June 30, 2009
A striking effect you achieved here, Nikki, and a most creative one. It's a puzzle effect of sorts but one that goes much farther than strictly puzzle pieces and becomes a work of art. The edges of the pieces and the texturing too add so much to the final work. #7693083Daniella Puente June 30, 2009
You did AMAZING, not just the most creative theme entry so far, but also sooooo well done! Love it Nikki :) #7693216Katarina Mansson June 30, 2009

Nikki, your dark room work is excellent and very skillfully done. Thanks for sharing your process!! You took what could have been a ho hum photo and have created a work of art. I also like the fact that you did this yourself step by step, rather than using a global filter that does everything with a single click. #7694149Susan Fox June 30, 2009
Wow!!!! Wonderful creation Nikki! Love the textures and effects. You took something ordinary and created a work of art. Nicely done :-)Happy theme day :-) #7694566
