Description

The looks being exchanged by the two adult females and the position and expression of the toddler orangutan struck me as resembling those in some 17th-century portraits of humans. That's why I've used various filters in PS CS 3 in an attempt to give the image a painterly look.

I love the way they are posing for you. Still trying to decide if the texture is an enhancement. But it's a great image. #7539099

Thank you very much, Dominick and Michelle. Michelle, I know what you mean about the texture. My reason for using it had to do with my feeling that in watching this interaction between the orangutans, I was seeing something very close to the kind of interaction we imagine happening between people in prior centuries and sometimes see depicted in paintings from those periods. To convey my feeling, I felt I needed to make the image seem as much like a painting as possible. I even added a frame to one version of it, but decided that didn't really work. However, I agree that possibly I should also have left off the texturizer. Thanks again for your kind comments. -Gerda #7540588

Great capture, Gerda! Personally, I like the texture effects; they do help to convey the feeling of an old master's painting. Congratulations on your feature in Digital Darkroom! #7769048
