I took many steps to accomplish this. I will upload my layers palette to show. #1123794

wow kathe, the light is really nice. I love how you brought out the variation in color in the flowers. this is tricky stinker with varying orange and pink hues. I like the composition, but I might try extending the bottom just a tad. the bottom flower on the right feels a little cramped.

clever posting the layers pallette. #7489226

Debbra Bailey May 05, 2009

Kathe, I would agree the bottom could use a little more space, but I love this image! Your colors and detail are wonderful! I love the sharpness of the stamen! They look like bug eyes :) #7489509

Jeanine M. Bailey May 05, 2009

These are really pretty!!! Awesome details and color!! More space is going to really do the trick I think! #7489526

Lovely colors here Kathe..i would just try to tone down the brightness of the "bug eyes" a bit.. #7489721

Very nice Kathe and as was mentioned the capture of all the shade changes is a testament to your original exposure and PP work.

I agree with the slight suggested changes, but a very nice photo as is.

these are lovely Kathe. They grow like weeds here and are mostly crimson and purple varieties. Don't see a lot of the supple soft colors like your sample.

I wouldn't change the crop with this shot as it depicts the plant faithfully.
I'm assuming you were going for the soft focus look which is a little unusual for me. As I said we have them all over the place here and they are always crisp and sharp looking. And I don't mean those mean thorns! LOL :o)

Such pretty shades. #7490445

Aimee C. Eisaman May 06, 2009

Wow you sure did come a long way from your original! Wonderful PP work! The light is magical....great job on the exposure! I'm gonna say stay with the crop you have now as it doesn't bother me. I also don't see an issue with the highlights.....toning them down might make for a flat looking image! :~) They are really neat flowers by the way...never seen them! #7491790

Lovely colors, the "bugs eyes" look like little flowers growing from the big flower. I agree the light is beautiful. #7492896

beautiful with such soft colors and love how they lead you across the page #7493646

Thank you all for your comments.

I thought about the room at the bottom. I had wished I had allowed more. I could add another 1/4" of canvas but trying to properly clone in the rest of that bg bouganvillea would be as obvious as trying to clone it out. So, I'm staying with this size.

As far as the bug eye flowers go -- are they too sharp for the rest of the image. The blank layer at the top of the palette is a hand cloning/sharpening on the bug eye edges. IF I did this correctly, then I should just be able to lower the opacity and they will soften.
But I NEED your input. I'm too close to this subject.

Thanks. #7495580

Dale Hardin May 07, 2009

Kathe, for me, the "bug eyes" are not a problem. I think you've achieved a nice balance. #7495680

Aimee C. Eisaman May 07, 2009

I like it as is...they do not pose an issue for me! :~) #7495826

I love the the softness in this image and agree with the others that the bug eye flowers go, they look fine. Thank you for showing us your layers palette. Maybe someday I will figure out layers. I guess I need to break down and take a class. You could take a history brush with a low opacity and just brush over the "eyes" a bit if you wanted more control of how sharp or soft they are. The history brush returns things to it's original state and if you use the lowest of opacities it can just minimize what you had done to your image. #7502327

Which program has the history brush Deb, I use PSE6.. #7504003
