I'm thinking I probably need to be putting a stroke line around this but am here at work so that will have to wait. One of my last winter shots. Hopefully no more snow! #1120736

Esther R. Tinz April 29, 2009

Hey - I just learned yesterday what a stroke line is - so I know what you're talkin about. And yes - it could use one. Poor little flower. It was a beauty right to the end. Hope sunnier days are ahead for you. #7465565

Debbra Bailey April 29, 2009

Beautiful color and square composition! I love the effects and what they do to the snow shadow :) #7466071

Ellen H. Robertson level-classic April 29, 2009

I agree with Debbra, I love the effects. Love the color on the stark BG. #7466167

Debbie E. Payne April 29, 2009

Thank you, all. I don't do much high-key sort of stuff, but this was fun and I had a huge background to work with since the backyard was covered with snow. When you have lemons, make lemonade! #7466367

Dale Hardin April 29, 2009

Debbie, this is out standing. A true work of art and very appealing. Agree on the stroke idea. #7466725

Jeanine M. Bailey April 30, 2009

First off...my FAVORITE flower!! Love the red and the effects you've used here!!! Beautifully done!! :) #7468009

Debbie E. Payne April 30, 2009

Thank you, Dale and Bean ( I think that name is so cute!); Aren't gerberas jus wondeful? It's hard to do them injustice. Just wanted your input because this was so different! Basically it is just lightening the background and applying poster edges (with a light hand). #7468633

Kathleen Nealon April 30, 2009

Just love what you've done to this beautiful gerbera. I have got to work on using artistic effects. I love looking at them. And red and white are so striking. #7468675

Christie R. Bielss April 30, 2009

This is very cool! But, what's a stroke line? Is that like making a shadow or something?
I really love this color combo and the effects. It's a show-stopper! #7469026

Sharon Lohrmann April 30, 2009

i'm fond of gerberas as well. the red really pops with this effect. i'm not sure what a stroke line is either? #7469060

Aimee C. Eisaman April 30, 2009

A beautiful work of art....you do some wonderfully creative things with flowers Debbie! The colors are what really grab my attention! I agree with the stroke! :~)

Girls...a stroke line is something that is used when you have a white or almost white background on an image. An image like this blends into the rest of the page when viewed on a white page. A stroke line is a thin black line that you add around the whole image to give it that separation on white backgrounds. In PS you use the marque selector and select the whole image then go to edit-stroke selection and set your pixels to around 1 or 2. #7469499

Michael Kelly level-classic April 30, 2009

Lovely piece of artistry. Yes on the stroke the rest is perfect. #7469526

Dale Hardin April 30, 2009

Aimee is correct and explained it well. If you have PS or PSE you can also just click on cont+A to select the entire image. Saves some time. We seniors try to save all the time we can. :o) #7469720

Aimee C. Eisaman April 30, 2009

Wow Dale...I never knew that...thanks for the quick tip! :~) #7469725

Vicki Snow April 30, 2009

Love the red against the white...geez I miss the snow!! #7469800

Debbie E. Payne April 30, 2009

I'll get to the stroke soon. Was out using the emerging green grass as a background for my orchids whose days are numbered. See below: #7470247

Debbie E. Payne April 30, 2009

Oops...they showed up "above". #7470254

Aimee C. Eisaman April 30, 2009

OOooo I love that last one against that bright green grass. They are beautiful! Orchids are my favorite flower! :~) #7470276

Michael Kelly level-classic April 30, 2009

All are great but 1 and 3 are better than 2. Love the colors and the BG sure works well. #7470429

Dale Hardin April 30, 2009

Beautiful orchids Debbie. That last one is truly lovely against that background and the diagonal comp works so well for it also. #7470507

Christie R. Bielss May 01, 2009

#3 is definitely my favorite - but all of them are lovely. The detail and sharpness are beautiful - I'm jealous! I love orchids too - they are such a graceful flower and you've done a terrific job capturing them. #7471544

Kathleen Nealon May 01, 2009

#3 hands down. The image reflects the graceful nature of this type orchid. Are you going to try any effex on orchids? I would be interested to see how you choose to interpret them. You are so good at it. #7472153

Sharon Lohrmann May 01, 2009

beautiful orchids debbie. are they hard to grow?

#3 is tops and then # 2. great color combination #7473227

Thanks you all for responding to my orchid shots. Kind of a "cheap" way to sneak in getting a few more critiques, but I wasn't really thinking about that - just sharing what I had just that minute finished doing and to let you know that spotty, new grass looks just fine when the DOF is right. #7473405

Aimee C. Eisaman May 01, 2009

Spotty new glass? #7473432

Christie R. Bielss May 01, 2009

uh, Aimee - that was "grass". LOL! #7473548

Aimee C. Eisaman May 01, 2009

Okay....thats it....need to get away from the computer for a night! :P Going to attempt playing cards at my in laws with the kids there! Wish me luck! :~) #7473635

Jeanine M. Bailey May 01, 2009

WOW!! Beautiful orchids!!! #3 is my fav of the bunch!!! #7473737

Debbie E. Payne May 01, 2009

To Aimee's defense...there probably were spots on my glass because my D30 desperately needs cleaning and neither one of us has had time to sit down and figure it out... #7474145

Aimee C. Eisaman November 17, 2009

I can't believe they passed on this the first time...stroke or no stroke! So glad to see it get the recognition it deserves. And no...I really thought it said glass! LOL :~) #8140293

Debbie E. Payne November 17, 2009

I lied, Aimee... I did change something. I changed the title from Fallen on Snow to Placed on Snow. One word, what do you think? #8140609

Aimee C. Eisaman November 18, 2009

Honestly for a work of art like this I would expect something more profound. :~) #8141356
