OK guys, you can look AT this image and get all technical with me or you can look INTO the image and use your imagination to see yourself on this boat heading out from Mevagissey inner harbour for a day's pleasure-fishing off the southern coast of Cornwall. Share with me my nostalgia as now, 3000 miles from Mevagissey, a small fishing port near where I lived as a kid, I can hear the muted "tump, tump" of the diesel engine, smell the salt air and seaweed, hear the cries of seagulls perched on the ancient cottage roofs and know that God-willing it is only a few weeks before I shall be back there on vacation. #1113978

Hey Peter this is a great picture. I can definately see my self on that boat. Sounds like fun! #7408977

Thanks Jeff. One of my sisters and her husband have a second home right beside the harbour here and my wife and I get back there every year. Beats staying at hotels!

Wonderful use of SC on this beautiful image! #7424820

Peter W. Marks April 20, 2009

That is so very kind of you Ronald.
Selective color is one of those Photoshop techniques that that can either add to, or when overdone, spoil an image. As Betterphoto members we see hundreds of images during the year and we all have our likes and dislikes and I kept well away from SC for a long time as I was put off by all those monochrome brides carrying lurid red roses and desaturated head-shots of kids with toxic green eyes and looking like refugees from the 'village of the damned'.
Moderation in everything is the key word but it sure can be fun playing with all those PS toys! #7424932

LOL Peter you made me giggle on your take of selective color. I second your opinion!!! I think you did a great job here with this image. I myself have only done a couple of my images this way. I do appreciate a "proper" image done this way because of all the hard work it takes!!
Have fun on your vacation...how exciting for you!! #7440700

Pete, it was good to make contact with you again. It's been a long time since I visited your gallery. Lost track somehow.

I like the composition and setting of this shot. Also like your restrained use of selective color. I haven't found too many images of mine where it would work well. But it this shot it certainly does. #7441222

You are very kind Vicki, thank you! I think a laugh or a smile is way more important than a misplaced pixel or a crooked fence (You know what I mean? :D)

Hi Dale! And good to reconnect with you too my friend and thank you for your generous comments. I think we all have trouble trying to keep contact when there are just so many super images and really nice people on BP. I wish I could afford to go on some of BP's get togethers but living as I do in central Illinois and flying back to England every year for a month I kind of use up all my cookie jar quarters.
Have a blessed day friend.

Absolutely agree with you on SC, Peter -- so hard to decide what to desaturate and what to bring the color back in. IMO, you did this one just right and it was your editing that first drew me to the image. You have a wonderful visit home, you hear? #7466219

Peter W. Marks April 29, 2009

Thanks again Nikki. The air tickets have been bought and paid for and I'm itching to go. Life can be sweet when there are no hotels to be paid for and my elder sister lends me a car. #7466438

Beautiful capture! It caught my eye as Maine is my home. #7620988

Peter W. Marks June 11, 2009

Good evening Shelly and thank you so much for your kind comment.
I often come cross images of Maine and its fishing boats and at least once a week BP has one of Portland lighthouse! I know I would enjoy living there except when the national weather reports tell me the east coast is having major storms and then I appreciate this part of s.central Illinois, boring though it can be until the Mississippi floods. Even then, we live well above the flood plain so have no real problem with weather.
So thanks again and I wish you a great summer.
