Very nice composition Jodi. I like the use of black an white in this image. This is one of those images that would not work if it were flipped horizontally. The "reading left to right" does not apply. And it's giving me a head ache trying to figure out the reason why. I like answers. Any ideas, Aimee, Debbie, Ulysses, anyone? #1074705

I can't tell ya why either Dale.....this just works for me composition wise! Maybe because those rocks are so interesting or that the water seems to flow from left to right? Now I do see some small blown out areas on the bear. (this means overexposure to the point that data is lost and you are left with a pure white spot) Above his right eye is an area of it. Now on a shot like this where it is so small and not attention grabbing most wouldn't even mention it. I'm just pointing it out to show you what I'm talking about. To see lost data in photoshop you would pull this picture up and go under view-histogram. If you have any data to the far left of the diagram then that is lost data. It's a nice tool to use to check if you are not sure about a shot! Love the title on this one as well as a nice capture! I have yet to see these guys at Pgh! Can't wait for some better weather! :~) #7097538Jodi M. Walsh January 28, 2009
thank you dale and aimee. i'm not sure of an answer to your composition question. I have to admit that now that I think about it, i'm pretty sure that i've seen a polar bear pic very similar to this. I think it was in one of my dad's wildlife art books.aimee, I tried looking at the histogram and did not understand it. i'm going to see if andy might be able to explain it when he gets home #7098696

I really like it, and like the composition. I think the black and white conversion was a great choice! The details pop! #7099518Jeanine M. Bailey January 28, 2009

I like it, Jodi. Especially the textured rocks.I'll be he was a happy camper with the weather being cold enough to close the zoo! #7102881Aimee C. Eisaman February 03, 2009
