Hello Ronnie,

All you need is a lot of patience, a good hide and a lot of luck.

First off...ditto on all! the comments. Awesome shot.

Second, I am a novice and I am trying to get the whole fill-flash thing going. Obviously you use the technique a lot (either that or God grants you with the perfect light every time you shoot). So I was wondering if you have any tips on how to fill-flash. I would appriciate your help beyond everything.

Rock on,

Hello Vasko,

Thanks for your great comments!
In all of my images which are published by there isn't a single one where I used a fill in flash.
I personal have mastered this fill-in flash technique. If you have some (semi-)professional photo equipment you just have to use the TTL-flash with fill-in function.
If you want to control the manual fill-in technique it's a good rule to measure your ambient light and than set your flash with 2/3 or 1 aperture less of light. So you can still see the ambient light but with the correction which is certainly necessary if you're taking a picture with backlight.
Hoping that this short explanation will be a help for you, I'm sending you my best regards.

Regards and success!!

I know this photo has been here for a while, but I'm relatively new here and was reading the guidelines for entry when I saw your example and checked out your gallery, Danny. I too marvel at your use of light--absolutely perfect in this shot. I also wanted to compliment the wonderful background which does so much to set off your subject. Congtratulations and Thank you. #7873
