Taj Mahal Palace hotel
Uploaded: December 25, 2008
After the largest 9/11 terrorist attack on WTC,unprecedented events of terror attacks on Mumbai in the past few days have put the city through unexpected ordeals. The Taj Mahal Palace & Tower is one of more than ten locations where the battle unfolded. Such a phenomenon of terrorism is a new-age crisis that has become a reality in many geographies of the world.
This symbol of Mumbai and the pride of India was reopened on 21st Dec,08.
The Taj Mahal Palace hotel was commissioned by Jamsedji Tata and first opened its doors to guests on December 16, 1903.The original Indian architects were Sitaram Khanderao Vaidya and D. N. Mirza, but the project was completed by an English engineer W. A. Chambers. The cost of construction was £250000 (£127 million today). During World War I, the hotel was converted into a 600-bed hospital.
The dome of the hotel is made from the same steel as used in the Eiffel Tower. Jamsedji Tata imported the same steel during that time.
