Red-tailed Hawk
Uploaded: October 05, 2008
The most common and widespread hawk in North America, the Red-tailed Hawk is a bird of open country.
The raspy cry of the Red-tailed Hawk is used in movies to represent any eagle or hawk anywhere in the world.
This was shot last week as I was shooting dragonflies at our pond. It was quite distant, so there's a heavy crop here..Needless to say, I was quite excited as I saw it start to draw near. Not quite near enough though :(

A lot of detail for a "longshot," Howard. I like the way he is backlit and still bright and beautiful. #6558698Marcel J. Fernandez October 06, 2008

I wish ANY bird would just fly by my pond LOL!Dianna Murphy November 12, 2008
Lucky you Howard... that he came towards you but if you wouldn't have been out there in the first place you'd have never got it, so its not all lucky. No luck is involved in the quality of the shot though. Beautiful work! #6746551Ellen Hodges November 15, 2008
