Hi Steve,
I'm rather new here myself but I have noticed no one has commented on your question or discussed your phoot so I will do my best to help.

Altough this image has great clarity I think the judges may have passed it by because of the tree branches bordering the upper frame. They distract your eye from the rest of the photo. I tried a similiar image this month and I had removed branches and it didn't get picked either.
I suggest we look at the winners so far and see how ours are different and how we can improve on our images in the future.
Mine is called "Sugar Beach" and it is on page 3 in my gallery. Do you think I left two much beach sand in my foreground and that is why mine was not picked?

This category has so many professional entries that I was not surprised that mine was not picked but still disappointed as I thought it was one of my best T&L or N&L.

Hope I was of some help. Have a great day and keep shootin'. #958257

Thank you for commenting on this image, Sharon. I took this image with the idea of using the branches to frame the scene. If anything, my intention was to have the branches control the eye, rather than distract. :)
I'll take a look at your image and let you know what I think.

I think the branches work great as a frame, bringing the eye to the tranquil lake. I find it to be a very peaceful and relaxing shot.

Thanks, Dave. I was hoping people would comment on the selection quality of EPs and the statistics I mentioned. I used this image as an illustration, rather than the issue.

That;'s funny Steve, I do not see any comments by you on stats or quality of EP's on this thread anywhere. Could it have been deleted.?? #6168305

Don't get me going down that route...Not sure if you have been following the thread about the changes to BP in the forum or not, but towards the end of the very long thread there are many comments about the quality of EP's, winners, and how the same images win every month. I got a good chuckle out of it.... #6168314

Here is my original comment:
Rather than a cheer or tear, I want to express puzzlement. The attached image, Tranquility, was rejected for an EP on June 26 in Travel and Place. I wonder why. To me, the composition, tones, color and subject matter are all at least acceptable. I am not asking whether this should be a finalist or winner. However, does it not deserve an EP so that it can be judged in later rounds? I have seen this happen to many images that are far above mere competence, so this is no aberration.
As an added concern, according to Alexander, Travel and Place had 1,988 images entered in May (6.4% of entries), yet there were a mere 13 Finalists (0.65% of T&P entries.) Of course, all but two of the finalists were also winners!
I offer this image as an example of a concern that is widely held. I am prepared to take some "shots" over this. Some changes need to be made! #6168358
