Av 2.5, Tv 1/100, 35mm, flash, time 15:30, 19 Nov 2004, Tampere (Finland). The first snow of the winter, nicely combined with a sunny and warm weather (only few degrees below zero). Perfect conditions for winter shots.

This shot is fantastic, Magdalena. It's perfect how the boat leads the eye right in to the sunset. And the silhouetted tree anchors the left side of the photo. Very well done. #190207Nadya Johnson November 21, 2004
Yes, a great shot! Doing winter photos, I have always had problems with my lenses frosting up - or worse, the camera itself. Maybe I've been out when it's just too cold! Do you mean below zero Fahrenheit or C? Either way, I love the photo. #929273Magdalena Vas November 21, 2004
Thank you so much, Paul. And I really enjoyed your "technical description" of it. You really know what to look for. ;)Nadya Johnson November 22, 2004
Ah! 32F - that does help explain things. My camera has been faithful at that temperature, but when it comes to twenty below Fahrenheit, "OH DEAR." It's been several years since I tried taking pictures at those temperatures but I'm still disappointed at the results (or lack of them)! You almost need a heating pad to keep the camera going... (I was using a manual camera.Don't know about a digital. Maybe this winter, I will find out.) Thanks for responding! And I do love your photo. #931241Magdalena Vas November 22, 2004
Hi again Nadya! Well, not trying to be indiscreet, but where are you living? Are you in Alaska? I'm not kidding. We have here too -20F, but usualy it takes no more than several days in a row, then it "drops" to 0F..10F. How is it there?Wish you the best of luck with your shots this winter!

I laughed when I read your comment, Magda. Actually, I encountered Extreme Cold weather in - Chicago! It doesn't get that cold very often, but when it does, believe me, it's Extreme. That was some years ago... I did notice, at 30 below or so (bbrrrr!) colors change... the air is crystalline and brilliant ... there are photo ops galore. That's why I was out there with my trusty Canon AE-1: except, it wasn't very trusty - kept freezing up. Now I'm back in Illinois again (a rural area). I rather hope it doesn't get that cold but if it does, I guess I''m fool enough to try again! Love your photo #957781Kirsi Bertolini March 19, 2006
