Here I am watching uploads... and voila, this amazing shot! Hmmmm, wonder if I know the photographer? LOL Anyhooo, this is nicely seen and captured Laura... he really is busy isn't he? #923841Laura E. Swan May 18, 2008
You're such a sweetheart. I wish we were neighbors...but alas. We CAN be on BP! (In fact we practically live in the same house as it is! Ha!...and I don't mind at all!)Thanks Christine. I have never taken a picture of a BEE and now I seem to be outdoing myself chasing them all over my yard and around the neighborhood. I must really be a sight (causing sore eyes!) -Laura #5938893
Joan E. Hoffman May 20, 2008
Beautiful Laura, and I see we almost titled them the same too LOL! My new Macro lens should arrive (hopefully) by the weekend, and I am sure I will be chasing every bug that ventures by!! #5950230Tiia Vissak May 20, 2008
a lovely image! #5952398Laura E. Swan May 20, 2008
Oh Joan...bug chasing is really quite fun, so long as you can take the ribbing from onlookers! Ha! I am glad you like my BEE! I was tickled with it! Can't wait to see your macros once you get going.Daniele you taught me something NEW today. That BEE's are afraid of the police. It might take me a lifetime to figure out WHY but I will just watch them more carefully to see. Maybe they need little POLLEN PERMITS and some just don't bother! They get caught ORANGE HANDED! Ha! Thanks for commenting! #5952411
Laura E. Swan May 20, 2008
Hi Tiia! I'm so happy for you on your big win. I knew those heavy chains were FABULOUS! I bet I was right about the year that is stamped on them as well! Thanks for stopping by my gallery! -Laura #5952421Rajeev 270293 Kashyap May 20, 2008

Great focus on the bee and lovely light Laura, love your title too:) #5952968Aimee C. Eisaman May 20, 2008
A wonderful composition.....I can just see you running thru the yard and getting a shot set up and then they take off before you can press the shutter release! LOL! I really like the upsidedown flower below the bee....a well blanced shot with vivid colors. #5953035Chris N. Sweet May 20, 2008
Great shot Laura, I have this funny little image in my head now of you running round chasing bugs in your garden! Oh you make me laugh! Anyway, beautiful capture, and what an intricate little flower he was working on. :-) #5953235Laura E. Swan May 20, 2008
Hi Patricia :)! I was happy to see your thumbnail arrive in my gallery again. So nice of you! Haven't seen you around in a while. I'm really glad you like my little model. Actually he was sorta BIG. These cameras amaze me with the clarity and focus they deliver. DIGITALS ROCK! Thx!HI AIMEE!!! I see you have been snooping around my gallery today. I'm honored. Even more so that you are liking my little BEE shot! I entered it into the contest. If we win I will give him his own little pot of flowers as a thank you gift. :)
Hi Chris :) You make me laugh, too, you nutter! You just wait. SOON you too will be sneeking around the garden (looking both ways first) and snapping shots of little vermin. You just wait. Now that it's on your mind you won't be able to resist.
When I count to three and snap my finger you will remember nothing and only think of macro bug shots being added to your gallery! #5953639
Joan E. Hoffman May 20, 2008
Now this is totally off the subject, but in one of our offices we have two employees... Kevin Fell & Roger Nutter. The first time I saw their names what popped into my head was... Kevin fell down laughing because Roger was SUCH a nutter... didn't think anyone else used that term in that way but me ROFL!! #5954604Renata Gusciora May 21, 2008
What a MACRO!!! #5958194Laura E. Swan May 21, 2008
Cute story Joan! Do you ever giggle when you see them standing side by side?I have to give Chris the credit for NUTTER. I had never heard of that word until Chris called me one, one day. He is from Englandville. Somewhere in Europialand. :)They must use that word a lot there since he seemed so familiar with it. :)
* * *
Hey THANKS Renata! Glad you like my BEE! #5958517
Chris N. Sweet May 21, 2008
Hey Laura, Chris here, speaking from Englandville! lol Nutter is a common light hearted kind of name for someone funny and bit crazy, just like you! ;-) lol Its a bit like when I told you to "mind the crabs" ie "mind they dont nip your toes"! on one of my coastal shots you commented on, I think the phrase you would have used would been something along the lines of "watch out for the crabs"?!Laura E. Swan May 21, 2008
Ok, well, here's the big question of the day, Chris...Would you still love the Cows if they were in the Rain eating up all your Potatoes???#5958888
Kristy A. Keene May 21, 2008
WOW! Gorgeous! #5960064Laura E. Swan May 21, 2008
Hi Kristy! Thank you so very much! -Laura #5960098Graham Robards May 22, 2008
We use Nutter in Australia too Laura so it must be British culture. My ancestors were convicts that came from England many years ago.I love you Bee, I have a Macro, may sell it up on Ebay as I never get to use it. Good lens 100mm.

Ah well thats a good question Laura.......I will come back to you on that! #5961400Samantha L. Dean May 22, 2008
Laura this is great!! What detail in your bee!! Well done girl! I too can see you running through the garden chasing bugs!! Lol :-) #5962326Laura E. Swan May 22, 2008
I live in Canada now so I am very surprised I haven't heard that expression yet...it' a cute one. Don't worry about your ancestors much. My Grandama on Dad's side thought she came from BLUE BLOOD and could hardly wait to go to Ireland to learn all about them in the 50's. To her disappointment she learned her ancestors were chicken thieves! Ha! My MOM on the other hand was related to Mary Queen of Scotts, but where did it ever get her?!!! (Either one of them?!!!) Glad yo like my fuzzy bug. #5963228Laura E. Swan May 22, 2008
Chris, I expect an answer by noon Friday. Rain is predicted in your area and the cows are headed your way.Samantha, you're a sweetie. I'm so happy you like my BUMBLER. (English term?). I wish I were still young enough to RUN through the garden. Floating like a princess. White Gown flowing behind me. I'm glad you can still visualize this for me.
These days it more of a calculated slow hunt. Every step counts and I go slowly. Like jungle warfare. I think this is what is so entertaining for the neighbours. I look totally intense and involved. Eyes jutting back and fourth. Up and down. Looking. Hunting. CREEPING UP!
I MUST find one of those hats with BRANCHES on them. It's the only thing I lack. #5963250
Ulysses A. Villamin May 24, 2008
So, naturally captured, Laura. Way to go!!! Thumbnail looks interesting, and when you see the full image... it just stings you right on. #5969836Laura E. Swan May 24, 2008
Thank you SO MUCH, Ulysses! I have never shot BUGS until now and it's really kinda FUN! You'd never know that BEES are in my top 3 biggest fears! Glad you liked it. -Laura #5969849Mary K. Robison May 24, 2008
Don't know which is better, Laura: the excellent detail and lighting of your BB macro, or the entertaining cross-conversations below him!Laura E. Swan May 24, 2008
How fun to her from you Mary! :) I love your fashion ideas and will keep them in mind next time I'm at the Army store. I do all of my most feminine shopping there. You are right. Bugs are not always very co-operative. Even when you tell them repeatedly that they COULD become FAMOUS on BP. Go figure. They normally tell me to BUZZZZZZZZ off. :( #5971625
Anna Diederich May 25, 2008
What a capture, Laura! Nice shot! #5975458Patrick Rouzes May 25, 2008

Well I am from England originally and very familiar with the term "nutter" LOLLaura E. Swan May 26, 2008
You're very welcome, Sue, and thank YOU for taking time out to look at mine, too. Glad you liked this one. He was a busy bee and didn't give me much more than a few seconds at each flower. :)Lol-re: Nutter! It's becoming a famous word on our threads now. #5979540
Ellen Powell June 15, 2008
I like this, Laura. Great lighting, composition, and nice and sharp! I love the subject, too. It seems to me that the bees are in some kind of ecstasy while they are collecting the pollen. #6062000Laura E. Swan June 15, 2008
I agree Totally, Ellen. These guys are so into their work...I have seen some on BP that have pollen ALL OVER their BODIES practically!!! Imagine loving their jobs enough to bathe in it! Ha! So glad you enjoyed mine. Thanks for stopping in. :) #6063283Randy L. Quast June 18, 2008

What a thrill to hear you say this, Irene. Thank you so very much! I as a bit nervous putting him in the center grid but I put him in the top 1/3 area of the photo so I do hope the balance is right on. It felt right to ME and to read others saying they like it, too, really puts my mind at ease. I'm having so much fun at BP and have learned so much! Thanks for your help and encouragement!!! :) LauraBTW-I am making an 8x10 of this one for my best friends birthday gift. SHE LOVES BEES and saw this one and really liked it. :) She will be so surprised, I think. #6231602

Well a word to the wise Michael. Go for nice big fat bumble bees first. They give you that extra second to focus! It's all in the wrists! Ha! It is also very rewarding to get their fur in focus.I just stopped into your gallery and saw a bug or two there. Eek! The Banana spider was really GOOD! I left you a mgs there. :) Thanks for yours. - #6326230
